November 2006
Larry Johns, Jeff Knowles and Dan Watkins visited our congregation and shared with us the
work Visionary Ministries is doing in
Haiti and the needs of the people. Upon hearing that $100 will pay
for one semester of nursing school in Haiti, one of our college students,
who is studying to be a nurse herself, obeyed the Lord in sponsoring a
Haitian nursing student for one semester. One of the current
building projects of Visionary Ministries is a 3-story dormitory in Rivere
Freonde so that the young boys can have separate sleeping quarters from
the young girls.
Densely
populated, Haiti is the least-developed country in the Western Hemisphere
and one of the poorest in the world. Through the efforts of missionaries,
such as Visionary Ministries, many have come to know Jesus Christ as their
savior. Haitians, however, tend to see no conflict with voodoo traditions of African origin co-existing with Christian
faith, so there is much work to do.
In
November 2005 God
blessed and enabled us to send 400 toys to provide Christmas for the children, as well as several hundred pair of eye glasses and
tennis shoes. In
March 2006 we were blessed to send more eyeglasses and tennis shoes.
In
August 2006 God blessed and enabled us to sponsor 10 children to go to
school in Haiti. In addition we sent 10 book bags packed with school
supplies as well as more eyeglasses.
